This stock caught my attention on Thursday with some very unusual call option activity. The news headline indicated that their had received FDA approval for an intravenous treatment for smallpox, for people who had difficulty swallowing pills. SIGA Receives Approval from the FDA for Intravenous (IV) Formulation of TPOXX® (tecovirimat) OK, good for them, but is that really such a huge market that the stock goes up 70% on huge volume spikes? Reading a bit further I found this: "The oral formulation of TPOXX (tecovirimat) is approved in the US, Canada and Europe for the treatment of smallpox. The European approval also includes the treatment of monkeypox, cowpox, and complications from immunization with vaccinia. The IV formulation of TPOXX was cited in the recent U.S. president’s budget request as being used to treat a patient in the U.S. with monkeypox." Which led me to this: Monkeypox outbreak: Drugmaker SIGA says EU authorities seeking to stockpile its smallpox antiviral Which better explains this (Up $3.00 after-hours on Friday) : SIGA 60 minute At this point I'm going to bring SIGA to the attention to my PRO subscribers with the caveat that you now know about as much as I do about this special situation. It is definitely worth follow up and while that is taking place I am buying some SIGA calls: $12.50/$15, July/Sep.
