It was a good week for the DJIA as it "soared" 1,050 from an Open Monday of 24,540 to a close on Friday of 25,580. Was it the exponential spread of coronavirus? The victory laps of Joe Biden? Or could it have been Costco selling out of toilet paper? Ironically, the best performing trades in our two portfolios were all Puts, except for the Long calls in VXX and the one equity Call, GILD, on Friday in the Short-Term Service. That Call was up 52% on a day the market was hard down for 6 out of the 6 1/2 hours. We noted in Friday's, "Into the Close" interim update that Monday is likely to be another news driven day. But figuring out which way the news will direct the market has proven unpredictable at best; schizophrenia has become the rule. As the performance tables below suggest, what we have been doing since this crisis began in early February has served us well so far, so in sage advice of Bob Dylan from his masterpiece, Tangled Up In Blue, we will keep on keeping on. She had to sell everything she ownedAnd froze up insideAnd when finally the bottom fell outI became withdrawnThe only thing I knew how to doWas to keep on keepin' onLike a bird that flewTangled up in blue.
