United Healthcare shares soared after hours Thursday as it was disclosed that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway had taken a large stake, 5 million shares ($1.6 Billion) in the company. In a separate SEC filing it was disclosed that "Big Short" investor Michael Burry, had also taken a stake in the company. Today, the shares are up 14%, from a close of $271 yesterday to a Friday high of $310...so far. I'm not one to chase, but, pulling up the UNH chart it is making the case for a speculative bet. A close above $325 will confirm a new uptrend, taking out the May and July, 2025 highs. That in turn would be highly suggestive of a run toward $500-$600 in the months ahead. There are options for such a move, to be bought either on a close above $325, or now, depending on your appetite for risk. I personally bought the Dec calls, but it's the October series below that is probably a better bet. That's just me. Options - Best Bets For buying right now, in lieu of waiting for a close above $325, two alternative strategies are highlighted in the tables below. Any strike/expiration in the tables looks about equally attractive. The gains shown are as of mid-session Friday and provide a good frame of reference for what is possible in the months ahead.
