My best advice for Bitcoin and Ethereum is to buy and hold and not try to be too cute with cycles or technical analysis. But some of us can't help it, so expect the next very short term high around Jun 10th. Maximizing (Buy & Hold) Returns Our initial purchase of Bitcoin was via adding GBTC to our long term buy and hold portfolio on August 3, 2020 @ $13.40. It closed Friday at $30.22 for a gain of +125% since entry. Not bad, but for the exact same time period Bitcoin has risen from $11,233 to $37,000 for a gain of +230%. Could it be just an anomaly based on two random dates? Let's try two more dates for comparison and add Ethereum and ETHE to the mix. YTD Returns Bitcoin +26% GBTC: -5% Ethereum: +256% ETHE: +60% One-Year Returns (from May 31, 2020) Bitcoin: +290% GBTC +180% Ethereum +990% ETHE: +80% These numbers suggest that buying Bitcoin and/or Ethereum directly through an exchange and not through a proxy like GBTC or ETHE is worth the effort involved in opening a Crypto friendly account. Here are some ideas, all of which I personally can attest to ease of use, especially on mobile devices: PayPal - Most everyone already has a PayPal account. Robinhood - Good for stocks/options as well as crypto. Coinbase - Most popular and easiest to use, especially for first-timers. Binance - Largest crypto exchange with a wide selection of alt coins.
